The Orlík Dam is the largest hydroelectric dam in the Czech Republic. It dams the Vltava River near the village of Solenice, it is 75 km from Prague by car. The structure is named after Orlík Castle, which is situated a few kilometers above the dam. The dam has four turbines with a nominal capacity of 91 MW each.

The Orlík Dam was built between 1954 - 1961. A hydroelectric power station with four Kaplan turbines (adjustable-blade-type turbine) was built in the footing of the dam. The ship lift is also on the right side of the dam.

The dam is 450 m long and 91 m high. The reservoir contains 717 millions cubic metres of water (the most in all of Bohemia)

This artificial lake is one of the favorite places for Prague citizens rest.

The highest bridge at Bohemia is on the road to orlik Castle.

Peacocks are the owners of castle's park.

The name "Orlik" means the "Small Eagle", because the castle's position looked like the eagle's nest.

From 1719 it was property of the Schwarzenbergs.
